Frozen in Time
by Alex Hedderick
“From high above the ground to far below, I've documented America's industrial history through photography. It started out as just raw adventuring until I began taking my camera along to photograph the beautiful interface between industry and the natural world. I specifically became fascinated with the underground workings of the vast system of abandoned mines under us. With long exposure photography and the use of both natural and artificial lighting, I have captured the beauty of countless mines from far below Pennsylvania to the dry canyons of Colorado. For many of these mines, it may very well be the first and last time they will be photographed before nature reclaims them entirely.”
