Gift of the Seed
by Rochelle Shicoff
“I have been making art, looking at it, thinking about it since receiving an easel at 6 years of age. Studio work is the passionate thread that runs through my life. My observations and reflections have resulted in a visual art that includes paintings, prints, collages, and public art installations. My studio is a place where I create visual statements about people, their relationship to themselves and their surroundings. My work is figurative yet not realistic. The humans are connected to the eternal land and are, when appropriate to the subject, situated in fragmented or whole landscapes. The question for me is always, how can I organize the colors, lines and shapes or forms to fit together to result in a cohesive whole and that the viewer reacts to its beauty while simultaneously seeing a message about themselves and other people.”
