Untitled

by Keegan Casey

“The consuming feelings of paralyzing indecision and anxiety make progress feels impossible. Every path forward is a jagged edge, so I retreat into myself when those edges slice and stab. This piece comes from the feelings that arise when I have an idea of what may lie ahead, but that image is distorted in my mind, obscured behind some impassible barrier, splintered into unrecognizable pieces of a whole I can’t fully conceive. The overwhelming feelings of anxiety and uncertainty of a good future are themes that informed the material and making of this piece. The fragility of the shattered glass, held together with tape, is akin to holding onto a vision for my future – it needs to be handled carefully, and the vision itself – looking through the glass – is fragmented, abstracted, and nondistinctive. Textures found in nature and outdoors provide glimpses of something familiar, but they aren’t fully clear, acting like blinds on a window.”
