“A Stitch in Time from the series X-Rays: In Living Color A Stitch in Time is part of my X-Rays: In Living Color series, a body of collages created from human and animal radiographic fragments. Originally rendered in neutral tones, these X-rays are digitally transformed into layered compositions of luminous color. This work is distinct within the series. It captures a precise and intimate moment: a veterinarian mid-procedure, surgical needle and gauze in hand, stitching an animal. The image suspends time, holding in tension both vulnerability and care, intervention and healing. The piece resists easy classification. It is not a portrait, yet it speaks to identity. It is not a landscape, yet its layered radiographic forms that suggest the rhythms of living systems. This artwork inhabits a space between tradition and transformation, dissolving boundaries between photography and digital art, medicine and metaphor. In doing so, it quietly questions the relationship between humans and animals, suggesting a shared corporeality and mutual dependence. Rooted in the tradition of medical humanism, A Stitch in Time invites viewers to look beyond the diagnostic image and recognize the symbolic, emotional, and existential dimensions embedded within the body.
