Clementine; King Cole

by Mark Flake

“Mark Flake is a visual artist, author, filmmaker, and composer. He was born in Memphis Tennessee. He has lived and worked in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Rhode Island, Georgia, Mississippi, Wyoming, and Kansas. Using an iconography of nostalgic Americana, his art explores our connection to a bittersweet world of lost mythologies and faded reverie. Influenced by Pop, Expressionism, and the Surrealists, Flake’s paintings can be characterized as having a rich impasto of color and black and white mixed with earth tones. The paintings are often paired with sculptural works in wood, plaster, resin, concrete, or soap.”
