One Trick Pony
by Riley Wyatt
“Through paint, scraps, and passion I tackle my battle with mental illness, gender identity, and universal cruelty while stopping to also appreciate the beauty of existence. Oil, acrylic, mixed media, and relief printing can define my portfolio mainly, however I wish to dive into sculpture and screen-printing when my schedule allows it. Recycled materials such as paper bags, plastic, and scrap fabric are also a cornerstone of my mixed media pieces and wearable art (shirts, patches, stickers, etc.). Pieces are meant to be just as messy and chaotic as the human psyche. This lends me to describe myself as an abstract artist heavily inspired by the works of abstract impressionists, Francisco Goya, Medieval prints, and other art that bridges terror into the everyday mind. I am also inspired by illustrators and cartoons as they are what inspired me to start this path.”
