Nautra Morte

by Robert Procter

“My work crosses boundaries between languages. It’s influenced by Western art training as well as Chinese poetry of mountains and rivers and brush calligraphy. It reflects historically ‘Asian’ approaches to organizing space, which were later adopted baby artists in the West. While Western 2-D divides forms, figure differs from ground, nature knows no such separation. There's no empty space. There’s no center of identity. No inside or outside. My work attempts to capture that natural sense of unity. I pay homage to that which sustains us: the air, the fire, the land and the water.”
