Death of a Child

by Jane Zich

“Imagery from the unconscious is both the subject of my art and the fuel for my painting process. As I paint, I am in constant dialogue with spontaneously flowing imagery, as if I am both dreaming and, with an artist's eye, scanning the flow of imagery to determine which images I want to grab hold of and explore on my canvas. Painting seems a two-way process — not only does the artist create an image but that image changes and creates the artist throughout the painting process. Igniting the viewer's imagination is one of my main hopes for every painting so that the viewer too might be transformed.
