Timbered Gaze

“My work is rooted in the quiet, unspoken dialogue between humanity, animals, and the natural world. I create ceramic sculptures to explore the deep kinship between all living things, and to blur the line between the self and the earth that shapes us. Inspired by the textures of weathered bark, eroded stone, and marine life, I use raw clay and fluid, organic glazes to mimic the slow, transformative forces of nature. I embrace imperfection in every drip, crack, and uneven surface, letting the firing process add its own mark to each piece—turning the craft itself into a collaboration with the elements. My goal is to capture the quiet resilience of life: the anger and defense of a puffed pufferfish, the stillness of a human face merging with bark, the quiet companionship of squirrels in a tree. Through these works, I invite viewers to see themselves in the natural world, and to recognize the shared strength, vulnerability, and interconnectedness that binds us all. For me, making art is a way to honor that bond, to slow down, and to reflect on what it means to be part of something larger than ourselves.”
