Somber Cello Dreams

by Kaitlin Murray

“My work explores perception-how patterns repeat, and how environments shift our internal state. I’m drawn to the tension between structure and flow. This monochrome painting isolates a rhythmic motif from an earlier work. I pared the palette down to black, white, and gray to focus on movement, spacing, and repetition; the sweeping lines began to feel like the pull of string instruments—sound translated into gesture—while the vertical forms hold the composition like a quiet structure.”
