Sinisteritas

by Justin A. Martin

“What I want the work to do is register rather than illustrate — to hold, in the surface and the mark, something true about experience: its difficulty, its occasional luminosity, the way meaning arrives unevenly and often under pressure. I am interested in whether paint can carry the weight of a feeling that hasn't found any other form, and whether a viewer might recognize, in that encounter, something they already know but haven't been able to see.”
