Self Portrait

by Emily Woodward Meyers

“‘Self Portrait’ is titled as such because it represents the self portrayed to the world, while the inner world—something many try to hide due to personal shame and fear of being known—still seeps out anyway. I believe in embracing the full self, warts and all. This is when we are at our most arresting even when our secrets are exposed, and maybe even because of it. Ceramics allows me to pull myself and my ideas directly from my head, through my hands, and into the clay, bringing them into this world as tangible, beautiful, and imperfect objects.”
