“My practice explores perception. I am interested in how we see, interpret, and assign meaning to the world around us. I began my career in animation. Despite advances in technology, the underlying principles remain unchanged. A sequence of images is presented in rapid succession. The viewer perceives motion, but there is none. It is a quirk of perception. Such phenomena permeate every aspect of our world, from our senses to our society. The themes of my work are intangible: symbolism, coincidence, and memory. I make images and objects to give these concepts presence. The artworks typically include sequential, kinetic, and algorithmic elements. They are time-based and function as experiences. My process combines digital fabrication with traditional craftsmanship. Digital tools extend my limits through non-linear workflows, precision, and time. Craftsmanship connects me to the work. The process of refinement imbues it with care, creating a presence that is sensed by the viewer.”
