Impermanence
by Sahba Shere
“My work explores abstraction as a space for presence, reflection, and connection. Rooted in mindfulness, my mixed-media paintings—what I call “mindscapes”—draw from nature, meditation, and the complexity of moving through multiple cultures. Each piece is an intuitive record of inner experience, shaped by a life lived across geographies and identities. I paint to capture not how places look, but how they feel to inhabit. Guided by texture, movement, and spontaneity, my process is improvisational and meditative. The resulting forms mirror the layered states of the mind—stillness, chaos, beauty, and fragmentation—offering viewers a quiet space to witness and feel. As a South Asian woman and social activist, abstraction is a conscious choice: a way to reclaim creative freedom and invite ambiguity, emotion, and expansiveness. In a world that often demands clarity and speed, I offer painting as a slow, intuitive practice—a space to return to ourselves and to each other.”
