“My art is influenced by the population of Blacks who lived free amidst pre-Civil War bondage in the South. The first civil rights activists who challenged unjust laws. Although law makers denied the ending of an unfair capitation tax placed on free people of color, they stood up to the system in the courts. Ann Eady who lived on Wentworth St. in Charleston is grudgingly on her way to pay the dreadful tax along with a horse described in the will of her uncle.”
