Ruminate

by Michael Nichols

“In my work, I reimagine the ancient art of buon fresco painting by exploring its contemporary possibilities. This technique, which involves the application of pigment onto wet plaster, has long been associated with grand architectural traditions, though its use today is rare due to the medium’s technical demands and labor-intensive process. My goal is to push the boundaries of fresco, both in its conventional execution and its historical associations. In a nod to graffiti art, I use an airbrush technique to bring a fresh dynamic to this old medium in ways that resonate with contemporary audiences.”
