Old Faithful Erupting

by Barbara Wentzell Jaquith

“In my au plein air practice, I enjoy loading up the RV and traveling near and far to chase the light in inspiring places. Capturing a moment’s sunrise, a misty rain or the closing of a dusky day in pastels is my joy! Whether I am painting in an abstract style or realism, my work explores the relationship between form and formlessness. Art is all about cosmic questions for me. How long can the sea endure? How long have those mountains watched the valley? Where did that river originate and where is it going? How do all these aspects of nature manifest right here, right now? I consider plein air work, studio work, spiritual practice and everyday life as opportunities for personal growth and I do not draw distinctions between them as separate components. For me, making art is a path toward self-discovery, spiritual growth and intellectual enlightenment.”
