Connections

by Anna Zuzanna Lasik

“My works frequently feature a mask motif. It is a reference to the desire to disguise what we want to conceal from others - our fears, our fragility, facial expressions that give away our reactions to situations or persons. I am interested in the theme of carnival, commedia dell’arte, the Orient, but also the matters involving politics, religion, or hues of variety of landscapes. I combine a variety of media and techniques: traditional weaving, painting, assemblage. I encourage a discussion on various matters concerning the natural environment, emotions in both direct and indirect manner. My goal is to trigger imagination, and I welcome occasional subject ambiguity, leaving an opportunity for anyone to stumble upon a part of themselves. I enjoy experimenting with materials, I utilize fragments of used clothes, styrofoam, fabrics leftovers. I sew both by hand and with a sewing machine. My work includes tufting, experimenting with both 2D and 3D, emotions, sensory and tactile”
