Determination
by Michael Matheron
“The great photographer of the mid-twentieth century, Saul Leiter, when asked if he could describe his philosophical view of the photographer's process, answered, "I don’t have a philosophy. I have a camera. I look into the camera and take pictures." My process often involves discovered art wherein I have no plans and look for locations that draw me in with their personalities or untold stories. Often these are subject or objects that many simply pass by, so seemingly common scenes they are. For me, they are small worlds in themselves, and I try to compose them so that they exude newness, a discovery by the viewer as if for the first time.”
