Blink
by Daniel McKleinfeld
“All of [my works] are video pieces. They can be projected or installed in a monitor of any size. I am a multimedia artist, creating video to produce painterly, immersive, hypnotic moods. I am fascinated by video’s material properties– color in motion, dots that form lines, hexadecimal pixels. A piece of video footage is both a document and a series of electric impulses and instructions. The emotion contained in even the simplest memory is inextricable from the material which transmits that feeling. My work explores the formal properties of video, breaking it down to its rawest elements: luminance, shape, rhythm, and nostalgia. To create my art, I build algorithmic visual systems alongside filmed and sampled material. The interaction of all these systems is controlled by my own physical instruments, knobs and slider which let me interact with generative systems in real-time. The finished work is a document of a performance, a fusion of code and intuition.”
