‘Abstract’ Series

by Yael Shai

“I have dabbled with art and creativity from an early age. As a teen I made my first attempts in painting, using big cardboard layouts, oils and acrylics to experiment with portraying movement and colors. Born and raised in Jerusalem, I studied graphic design in the city’s Academy of Arts and Design, “Bezalel”, earning a B.A. in Visual Communications. Working at a prominent newspaper and several graphic design studios, my true passion was to paint, and I never stopped exploring and experimenting the assembly of colors and movement on the canvas. Paul Gauguin said: “I shut my eyes in order to see”. That is the temper with which I approach the painting process. I let an emotional or contemplative trigger guide me in facing the canvas, organizing colors and brush sizes according to what it is I feel a need to express in color and form, and using them by flow of consciousness, letting myself be guided by intuition.”
