Tangled Memories
by Rianna Rice
I am a multimedia artist currently based in rural Missouri. I am interested in how art can be a vessel for memory and a vehicle for remembrance. Since returning home to rural Missouri, I have pursued performance art while thinking about my relationship to home. Rural Missouri is not a place I thought I would be after college, however it has proven harder than expected to leave. As an only child who did not grow up with anyone, I often worry I will forget pieces of myself or my past. However, being at home in my parents' house and in my childhood yard, I see many memories. I see the trees I grew up with and the ground I scraped my knees on. This landscape is a sentient place that had a hand in raising me. Sometimes I try to sink into it, hoping it remembers me, too.
