No Cops in Earl Duncan Park
by Rebecca Blaske
“My art uses hyperrealism, maximalism, and the juxtaposition of decay and beauty to open a window into intimate parts of the world that most people don’t get to see. I explore how the strange and unusual within the dirty cracks of life compost into a host for rebirth and growth. My intensive process of meticulously layering oil paints, water color, or colored pencil reflects the intricate nature I find hiding in the details of the peculiar. The result plays witness to an unexpected reflection of how the nuances and experiences of life sculpt the human figure and the environment around them. My paintings are initiated and guided by my experiences of real people and shared memories within their communities. I am particularly attracted to the endless variation of expression and detail within different individuals. My work creates a visual melody comprised of human emotion that becomes immortalized within the canvas.”
