Ivy and Moss

by Amanda Spartz

“My work in watercolor and ink is a quiet conversation with the natural world—an attempt to listen closely and respond with care. Visiting the wild landscapes of Montana and Washington State, I am always drawn to the subtle patterns of growth, decay, and resilience in nature. I spend time sketching outdoors, letting the shapes of leaves, branches, and shifting light guide me. In the studio, those impressions become layered washes and intricate marks that reflect both observation and memory. I’m fascinated by the tension between structure and looseness, precision and fluidity—how nature holds both. Painting is my way of paying attention, of slowing down, and of honoring the complexity and calm I find in wild places.”
