Excelsior Just Isn’t So Mighty!

by James Alexander Lewis

Alex Lewis is a senior BFA Painter at Truman State University interested in painting as a psychic connection between the maker and the audience. Having dabbled in spirituality and art since very young, he merged the two mediums after creating subconscious soft pastel work which challenged his notions of time traditional messaging in artwork. He explores the unseen in everyday life and encodes his artwork with figures and personal mythological elements. He is building towards a Capstone pertaining to these premonitions by creating an interactive site-specific installation where gallery goers can freely touch, move, and explore raw canvas draped like curtains to reveal hidden and specific messages and figures others never see.
