“To an immigrant, the idea of a homeland is like a mirage; something to strive towards, never within reach, more an illusion than a place. A sense of belonging, independent of geographical constructs, can only be experienced by being in nature and feeling a connection to its essence or symbolism, its visual characteristics, and natural materials. Material and place are interchangeable in my process, and they constitute an index, or trace of time and place. The gradual process of making a print is like the process by which we build our memories. ‘Path #6’ is a monotype that belongs to an ongoing series investigating how human movement shapes the landscape. Each image focuses on paths formed through repetition—routes gradually pressed into vegetation by the passage of bodies over time.”
