Needles for Fates

by Allyson Glenn

Allyson Glenn is a visual artist based in Saskatoon, Canada. Her practice takes the form of painting, drawing, and animation. Fascinated by the topics of myth, allegory, the mind, and the environment, her artwork investigates complexities between fictional and experienced realities. In re-examining Greek myths, she explores the role of archetypes, in both storytelling and the creative and unconscious mind. Engaged in inquiry around the imagination, she creates artworks that examine aspects of the mind, constructed realities, speculative fiction, and collective transformation. By collaging, amalgamating and layering imagery, her paintings interrupt and de-contextualize the visual language of the original source. Scenes are made be allusive rather than literal to activate the to reconsider the expected. Hands for Fates, is part of a larger grouping which is a polyptych centered on the myth of Icarus. Loosely linking Icarus’s iconic journey to The Fates, the series explores hubris, death and transformation.
