Love Thy Neighbor

by Aimee Fresia

“In August of 2024 my newly-retired neighbor hadn’t been seen for several days. He was a man who worked outside daily and kept an immaculate lawn. With the added concern of another neighbor, I made the decision to call for a welfare check. He had taken his own life, and I think of him every day. I had my new sign installed on my Little Free Library the day before he took this action. I was the only one who knew his full name, and it took the police weeks to locate next of kin. We never know what others are going through.”
