L'incendie

by Hippo Arts

“My work explores internal landscapes shaped by pressure, expectation, and endurance. Color and visual form act as emotional release, while distortion and repetition allow what is carried silently to surface. I am interested in accumulation rather than spectacle. Subtle shifts compound until what once appeared stable begins to strain. Each piece maps a psychological terrain that can be felt before it is explained. My paintings center Black women within emotional and psychological spaces, moving between surreal imagery and intimate moments. Rather than offering fixed or stereotypical narratives, my figures remain present, contradictory, and unresolved. Through painting, I examine how visibility, scrutiny, and self-awareness shape interior experience, and how vulnerability and power can coexist within the same body.”
