Fractured
by Anna Sirota
“My body of work combines self-portraiture and movement to examine internal contradictions of the self and the duality of thought and feeling that exists within us all. My work aims to disrupt preconceived notions of beauty, acceptability, and worth. I seek to inspire introspection, self-acceptance, and a willingness to reconsider. While my past work reflected fear, inadequacy, and inner chaos tied to mental health and body image struggles, my practice has shifted to reflect personal growth and transformation, and explores themes of life and death, relationships, subversive thought, and vulnerability. Aesthetically, my work reflects my nostalgic spirit and fascination with the ethereal. Movement creates a ghostly ambience, blending the spiritual and corporeal as a metaphor for emotional fluidity and life’s intangibility. Much of my imagery is inspired by unseen sources: music, literature, poetry, and human connection.”
