“My work seeks to subvert the traditional hierarchy between drawing and painting. By utilizing sketches derived from my own completed paintings as a structural armature, I elevate the drawing process to a primary medium. During each studio session, I rotate the orientation of the piece, forcing a constant re-evaluation of the entire picture plane. This iterative approach is mirrored in my physical technique: a rigorous additive and subtractive process where the scraping off of the oil pastel holds as much weight and intent as the pastel itself.”
