Dancing in the Boiler Room

“My piece, Dancing in the Boiler Room, is a watercolor painting done of my very own boiler. Although it was not the initial intention of the piece while I was painting it, I now find it to capture a youthful feeling, something nostalgic and unique to my childhood home. At the time of creating the piece, I was simply enjoying a quirky perspective and vivid colors in the place of what is usually industrial and dark with grime. Presently, I look at it with the fondness of an old memory. The colors were picked in an effort to capture the feeling of sunset in my boiler room. The windows of the room are flush to the ceiling, only allowing bright light in for a small period of every afternoon. It creates a quiet joy, as if the sun itself is the unsung music in the room, perhaps provoking one, if only briefly, to dance.”
