Aphrodite
by River Hennick
“I am passionate about the intersection of art, mythology, and politics. Revisiting female roles in contemporary society, my work begs the question of how feminine power shapes the commonwealth and how that power has changed throughout the years. Myth and symbolism are used to humanize the personal experiences that reflect larger societal developments. My characters move beyond a supporting role, addressing the viewer with their gaze and commanding autonomy. Oil paint is the prime medium, utilized to capture the subtleties of human form and softness of expression.”
