Janvi Bhardwaj is a photographer from Punjab, currently based in Bangalore, where she is pursuing her Chartered Accountancy articleship. Her practice began as a means of escape and self-expression, rooted in an early artistic sensibility and shaped by the rural landscapes surrounding her home. She first turned to photography through her phone camera, documenting the fields and everyday scenes of Punjab. Working across photography, diptychs, and double exposures, Bhardwaj explores the intersections of memory, perception, and emotional experience. Her images often emerge from ordinary encounters, revealing the psychological and affective dimensions embedded within the everyday. Photography serves as a process of self-inquiry through which she examines themes of home, belonging, intimacy, and the relationship between human presence and the inanimate world. Her practice includes dreamlike double exposures, observational studies of domestic and familiar spaces, and diptychs that draw unexpected connections between people, objects, and environments. Through these works, she investigates how personal histories and emotional states become inscribed within landscapes and daily life. Recently, Bhardwaj has expanded her focus to the urban environments of Bangalore and Chennai, engaging with the cities through photowalks. Moving between rural memory and contemporary urban experience, her work reflects an enduring interest in observation as a means of understanding both place and self.
