What Went Ye
by Gabriella Gelovna Gelashvili
Gelovna is a visionary artist whose work reflects a life shaped by profound personal experiences, cultural depth, and relentless artistic dedication. Born in Khabarovsk, Russia, in 2003, and of Georgian and Siberian descent, she was raised by two artistically gifted parents who nurtured her early passion for creativity. Her unconventional childhood, spent traveling across Southeast Asia and between contrasting environments, from craft-filled homes to her father’s adult nightlife venues, instilled in her a complex, worldly perspective. After fleeing political threats in Russia and relocating to Miami in 2011, Gelovna faced further tragedy with the loss of her father in 2019, prompting a temporary retreat from art. In 2022, she reignited her practice with renewed purpose, using painting as both homage and healing. Today, her bold, emotionally charged work explores themes of loss, erotica, resilience, and identity, inviting viewers into a deeply personal and uncompromising artistic world.
