The Cube

by Antony Maderal

“I marvel at the efficiencies and opportunities created by the rapid ascent of technology, but tremble at how we strive daily to provide resources to feed these machines that steadily solidify their control of our waking hours. We wage wars, at home and abroad, to secure the fuel, rare earth metals, and other raw materials that generate life-giving nectar to feed our machines, only to dump their short-lived parts into waste streams creating environmental and societal dangers. The sense of community and connectedness offered by social media and technological advances has altered our existence. The events surrounding the 2024 presidential election, and the subsequent dismemberment of our civil society all in the name of technological efficiency cannot be overstated. I present an aesthetic judgment of technology repurposing found, scavenged, and repurposed materials to create vibrant, interactive, dynamic sculptures that challenge viewers to examine their relationship with technology.”
