REMEMBERING PASSWORDS

by Richard Mittelstadt

“For the past sixteen years I have discovered that I can enjoy the process of acrylic painting as well as the final product while not feeling as though I had missed attaining a certain standard of technical skill or mastery of materials. Over the past several years my style has changed but not my intent, love of expressing my imagination, or my interpretation of nature. As I have worked more in abstract and non-objective subject matter, I have enjoyed making the compositions look good and visually interesting while not dwelling on making the subject matter look right as I had been doing in my previous watercolor experience. Acrylic painting has given me more freedom to create whatever I want--with or without subject matter—expressionistic or tightly controlled--ambiguous or obvious—familiar or innovative. The strength of my abstract or non-objective acrylic paintings relies on my personal voice and how well I use the elements and principles of design in the compositions.”
