LAIRH #19; What Susie Says of Sally; Untitled
by Lavely Miller
“For the past twenty years, I have painted primarily with my fingers in acrylic paint and the pieces I’m submitting here are examples of this. Recently, I started experimenting with an adapted type of Flemish-style painting, building up the majority of my images with thin glazing layers, which I paint over paper affixed to canvas. The glazing layers help create a greater sense of realism and depth and the paper contributes to the wrinkled textures in the background. On a contextual level, my paintings have a sort of “aboutness” that revolves around personal difficulty, contemplative prayer, trauma and good fortune. I consider my work to be thank you letters to God.”
