Echo of Flesh and Light

by Subhra Bhattacharya

Subhra likes to visualize emotion in his work, and weave a story with shapes, lines, and colors. He looks for the unexpected in the mundane, the interplay of light and shadow in form. He believes his visual art is a metaphor rather than a description. He grew up in Kolkata, India, among a myriad of colors, rhythms and verses and was deeply influenced by both eastern as well as western art and literature in his formative years. These images explore the human form through dramatic interplay of light against shadows. Each pose captures vulnerability and strength simultaneously—bodies in contemplation, introspection, and quiet revelation. The contrasting color palette creates an otherworldly atmosphere that transforms intimate moments into something transcendent. Through selective lighting and shadow, the work examines how we exist in spaces between exposure and concealment, revealing the poetry inherent in human solitude and self-reflection.
