Canyon Story

by Celeste Hodges

“As an artist, I see my process as a “supply chain manager.” I seek out ideas, quotes, and funny sayings, as well as designs, ancient symbols, photos and graffiti. I also collect family stories, other peoples histories, and books - lots of books. These bits and pieces are recorded in my sketchbooks on a daily basis and become a source for new artwork and new imaginings. My process of making work is to engage in questioning, wonder, and to examine playful, irritating, exhilarating, analytical, and/or worrisome concepts. Many times, a painting plan feels as though it is a wrestling match. I begin with a design held firmly in my grasp, and then just as my confidence increases, the process slips through my fingers. If I am a good loser, I walk away and come back later, only to realize that what is emerging is another "better" answer. Thank you for considering my work.”
