“…the verticality of this series is my exploration of boundaries in non-narrative abstractions and the correlations or contentions of color and form. After the 2024 presidential election, this series of paintings evolved by beginning with horizontal red and blue pencil lines. Sometimes drawn with pressure, sometimes drawn almost hovering over the surface, sometimes with those two colors overlapping, sometimes isolated or alternating. Regarding newscircleOne, bloomEnfolding and releasingHope, each work in this series is an exploration of what a news subject’s hidden layers of context could be and what unstated truths could lie at the center of each story worth publishing. After reading a news article and observing its corresponding photo, I explore not what is possibly beyond the edge of a photo, but am wondering if there is something more significant or illuminative beneath it.”
