Sim Garber

Sim Garber is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is grounded in lived experience and shaped by both visual and musical influences. Raised in a creative household, Garber was encouraged early on through art classes, music lessons, community theatre, and show choir. Though primarily a visual artist, they continue to draw inspiration from music—a thread that runs through much of their process.

Garber studied graphic design at the undergraduate level and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at Lindenwood University. Their practice spans multiple media, with recurring motifs such as eyes, which they use as symbols of meaning, perception, and truth. A distinctive part of their process is shaped by synesthesia and neurodivergence: they often work while listening to a single song on repeat through noise-cancelling headphones, a method that helps them tune in, focus, and translate sound into visual form.

Personal experience is a central influence on Garber’s work. As a disabled, chronically ill, and non-binary member of the LGBTQIA+ community, their art reflects resilience and challenges assumptions about identity. This perspective led to works like The Outward Layer Deceives You, inspired by the disconnect between how others perceive them and the realities they live.

Looking ahead, Garber aspires to build a sustainable career as a working artist, selling pieces wholesale and on consignment to small boutiques, while continuing to share their work at art festivals. They are currently developing new series on canvas board in preparation for upcoming shows.
