Margaret Wasiuta
Margaret Wasiuta is a Polish-born, Canada-based painter whose practice merges abstraction with fragments of landscape, architecture, and the natural world. Her paintings are rooted in imagination, memory, and dream, blending the boundaries between representation and abstraction. Working primarily in acrylic, oil, pastel, charcoal, and pencil, she experiments with textures, layers, and glazes to create atmospheric spaces that reflect both personal experience and active states of mind.
Raised in Kraków—a city steeped in centuries of artistic, academic, and cultural history—Wasiuta’s creative foundations were formed within its magical and intellectual atmosphere. She studied at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, where she earned her Master’s degree in Interior Architecture, and later attended the Paris College of Art summer program. Kraków gave her structure and discipline; Paris opened her to freedom of interpretation. Eventually, she settled in Canada, where the vast landscapes and profound natural beauty continue to inform her vision.
Wasiuta’s work draws inspiration from Expressionism (particularly Der Blaue Reiter), Abstract Expressionism, Bauhaus, Les Nabis, Magic Realism, and contemporary movements such as Art Resilience. Her current series, Land of Desire, emphasizes an intimate connection to nature—treating the Earth as a sensual, living being—and invites viewers to find personal meaning in her layered imagery.
Her creative process is intuitive and meditative, guided as much by chance as by deliberate choice. Each painting begins as a foggy impression—born of music, memory, or observation—that evolves into a space of symbols, gestures, and atmosphere. She hopes her work serves as an open invitation, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own lives, emotions, and dreams.
Wasiuta is a member of international art groups including Art Resilience (Paris) and the Colour and Form Society (Toronto). Her paintings have been exhibited widely in Poland, France, and Canada, and her ongoing work continues to explore the search for balance, meaning, and vitality in the face of chaos and change.
