Aparajita Sen

Aparajita Sen began her journey with color at an early age, inspired by her maternal grandfather—a noted artist in India and student of Rabindranath Tagore, the first Asian Nobel laureate. After immigrating to the United States with her family, she continued to draw throughout her school years, earning recognition and awards for her art.

Though she initially pursued a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Finance and worked in the banking field, art remained a quiet constant. Even in the midst of a demanding career, she sketched whenever time allowed. Eventually, her desire to fully immerse herself in creativity led her to forgo banking and pursue art professionally.

Aparajita has since studied with award-winning artists at the Visual Arts Center in Summit and other organizations, exploring oils, pastels, acrylics, charcoal, watercolor, and mixed media. She is completing a Painting Certificate program at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and has taken visual arts and art history courses at Princeton University. Her current practice is grounded in experimentation, abstraction, and a willingness to test new techniques and themes.

Her paintings are known for their sense of mystery, poetry, lyrical rhythm, and the movement of natural patterns. Intrigued by symbolism and impressions, she works in a contemporary abstract style, layering brilliant colors with oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. Each piece emerges from reflection, meditation, and emotion, offering viewers compositions that balance brightness with depth.

In recent years, Aparajita has focused on the interplay between forms, nature, and the environment, developing a series on the earth titled Ridges. Her explorations continue to weave connections between nature, spirituality, feminism, and the philosophical ties between self and society. Through intricate combinations of media and ethereal forms, her work invites contemplation and cross-cultural connection, seeking to bridge inner reflection with the shared human experience.
